Lord Cormack FSA DL
Former President, International Affairs
It is with great sadness that we record the death of Lord Cormack who was such an integral part of FIRST – serving as President of International Affairs for thirty-nine years. Lord Cormack was one of the longest-serving Members of Parliament, having entered the House of Commons in 1970. His interest in Foreign Affairs was reflected in his membership of St. Antony’s College Oxford, of which he was a former Visiting Parliamentary Fellow; his Chairmanship of the British-Finnish Parliamentary Group and of the British-Bosnia Parliamentary Group; and his Governorship of the English Speaking Union. He was both Vice-Chairman and Treasurer of the United Kingdom Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and he was a member of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee of the House of Commons. He was knighted in 1995 and was appointed Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland in 1997. He was also an Honorary Citizen of Texas. He was a Fellow, and former Vice-President, of the Society of Antiquaries. He joined FIRST in 1985 and was a great supporter of all FIRST initiatives – including the Responsible Capitalism Initiative. May he rest in peace.
