Rt Hon. Lord Judge
On behalf of FIRST, it is with great sadness that we record the death of Lord Judge who played
such a key role in FIRST. Lord Judge succeeded Lord Woolf as Chairman of the Judging Panel of
the FIRST Award for Responsible Capitalism. His brilliant legal mind and extraordinary intellect
brought incisive leadership to the First Responsible Capitalism initiative.
Lord Judge served as Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales from 2008-2013. Previously he
was President of the Queen’s bench division. From 2019 to 2023 he served as Convenor of the
Crossbench Peers in the House of Lords.
He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Nottingham Trent University in 2007 and
received an Honorary Doctorate from Cambridge University in 2012. He was also an Honorary
Fellow of Aberystwyth University as well as Kingston University. From. 2013 until 2023 he
served as distinguished visitor to the School of Law at Kings College London.
Lord Judge was a great supporter of FIRST and an inspiring Chairman of the FIRST
Responsible Capitalism initiative. He will be sorely missed. May he Rest in Peace.
